Thank you very much for your comments Tina; it's great to get a "professional opinion" on the post :)

My therapist is doing CBT, and she *is* quite good. Right now, I'm at a pretty down point, so the thought of doing the work needed makes me shudder. But I know it's only temporary, and as I've said before, I'm going to try and get my medication regiment changed today. I'm hoping that'll help put things in a better light for long enough to where I'll be focused on therapy.

Thanks again!

As a therapist myself, I know how difficult depression is. Your description is powerful, and will be helpful to others. I hope your own therapist is using Cognitive Behavioral therapy. It helps a lot. "After so long of putting up with it, you get tired. And I mean physically tired, emotionally tired, mentally tired. Your brain stops working, your body stops working, you stop caring about anything. " is the key. Your mental processes wear you out, mentally and emotionally. Please understand that you don't have to be stuck with it forever. It takes a lot of internal work to change your thought processes, but it can be done. Peace and healing to you.

Hi Renee,
Thanks for your comment. And you're definitely correct -- that's the main reason I give up on my book(s) on a fairly regular schedule. Something goes wrong (either real or imagined) and it's just "Well hell, why even bother?" I get frustrated for one reason or another, and it just doesn't seem worth it to try anymore.

I'll try and get that post out soon; hopefully sometime tonight or early tomorrow.

Thanks again!

Hi Matt,

I know you as an author only, so I will say that personally I appreciate your candidness, since I see you on many sites, and have wondered why you seem to give up on your book. That thought has crossed my mind. That said, I also appreciate your candidness, because someone that I love very much struggles as well. I personally struggled with post-partum depression, but I really feel that it is very different. We recently had a horrible time, I feel, because I do not know how to react or deal with the exacerbation. It is a frustrating disease, for all involved. I often feel as though we are being held hostage to depression. I look forward to a post about how you would like the people in your life help you deal with your depression.

Compassionately,
Renee

Thanks Liam, I appreciate the comment, and I'm glad I could help out a little. I'm probably going to do another post soon on how to deal with someone else who has depression -- that's a whole different beast than dealing with it yourself.

In the meantime, if there's anything you -- or anyone else -- would like to know, please don't hesitate to ask.

A very interesting article that offers a great many insights. I have lived with someone who suffered from severe depression and I was always at a loss to understanding the condition. Your thoughts have brought me a little closer to understanding; thank you.
